One school of faculty with 8 majors

There are 8 majors under 1 school of faculty, allowing students to obtain degrees on par with those of other university faculties and departments. Two majors, Major in Japanese Language and Culture and Major in Business Administration, are particularly popular among international students.

Later Matching

Students do not have to decide on a major at the time of admission. They study a wide range of academic studies during their first year and choose their main major from their second year onward. Even students who decides a specific major in mind can change their major after experiencing a wide range of studies.
All international students do not decide on a major at the time of enrollment, but choose their main major when they advance to the second year.

Minor Major

You can choose a minor major in addition to your main one. There are a total of 28 combinations of studies! Expand your future possibilities with the Sapporo University’s Unique system.

Courses for International Students

Sapporo University offers Japanese language courses for international students according to the level of Japanese language proficiency. In addition to language classes, there are also subjects to cultivate your presentation and communication skills in Japanese for working in Japan.

New curriculum started in April 2024

In order for students to realize what they can learn and what skills they can acquire, we have carefully selected existing courses and upgraded the "Mirai-shiko Program," a cross-disciplinary program that can be taken by any student from any major.

Major in Economics

Let's learn how the economy is deeply related to our lives and be able to understand and analyze the movements of people, goods, and money.
Economics is the study of how the flow of people, things, and money is related to our lives. If we learn about this relationship, we can better respond to future changes in society. Knowledge of economics is indispensable for solving the problems of people and communities.

Major in Business Administration

Studying business administration is a shortcut to enriching one's own life. Become a person who can contribute to the development of business entities in the local and international community.
Although business administration is often thought of as a study only for becoming a manager, its starting point is for individuals to manage to make a living and be happy in their work. Let's learn about the management of business entities from the three perspectives of management, accounting, and information.

Major in Law

In a word, legal mind. Our goal is to develop human resources who understand the rules of society and can utilize them.
Just as you cannot become a great sports player without knowing the rules, you must have a good understanding of the rules of society and the ability to utilize them in order to play an active role in society. In the Law major, students learn about the rules of society and cultivate the ability to utilize them.

Major in English

The English major fosters specialized skills in English as a lingua franca and the ability to view the world from multiple perspectives by deepening one's knowledge of the history and culture of English-speaking countries, thereby fostering individuals who can contribute to local communities.
We cultivate people who will be active using English in the fields of general business and education by improving their English skills, mainly through classes taught by native English speakers, and using their English skills as a foundation to study English and American literature, deepen their understanding of the characteristics of the English language, and acquire an international outlook through research into the regions and cultures of English-speaking countries.

Major in History

Our goal is to nurture individuals who will contribute to the realization of a sustainable society in the fields of education and the protection of cultural assets.
By studying archaeology, history, Ainu culture, etc., students will acquire long-term thinking from the past to the present and a bird's-eye view of the cultures of Hokkaido, Japan, and other parts of the world. With a broad perspective and comprehensive knowledge of history and culture, students will be able to think, judge, and act on their own in response to the various issues faced by today's restlessly changing society.

Major in Japanese Language and Culture

We nurture students to become good users of the Japanese language, to develop a rich sensitivity, and to become flexible individuals with a good understanding of themselves and others.
From the first year of study, students will develop the ability to express themselves from a variety of angles. We nurture students to become people who want to express themselves more, to become good users of the Japanese language, and to read hidden thoughts from literature, and to spread this enjoyment to the community and society.

Major in Sports

We will build a diverse society through sports. We foster an understanding of the issues that exist in the society in which we live and the ability to open the way to the future.
For example, students will discover issues in society through sports in the "Sociology of Sports" class, understand social transition in the "History of Sports," see its essence in the "Philosophy of Sports," think about solutions in the "Sports Management" class, and acquire problem-solving skills.

Major in Liberal Arts

The Liberal Arts major fosters individuals who are capable of comprehensively addressing the diverse and complex issues facing modern society with a rich liberal arts education and the ability to think in a multidisciplinary manner.
The liberal arts are studies that familiarize students with various sciences and cultivate their ability to think in a multidimensional manner. By studying Western classics, Oriental thought and history, language and culture, and contemporary cross-cultural communication, students will acquire a "body of knowledge," the strength to tackle difficult social and regional issues by making full use of a network of knowledge.
