Kagawa Prefecture, also known as "Udon Prefecture", is located on Shikoku, the smallest of Japan's four main islands. As its nickname suggests, Kagawa is very famous for its delicious udon noodles. So famous, in fact, that some international students come to Kagawa first and foremost for the noodles! Udon noodles are one of the mainstays of Japanese food culture, and so the appeal to international students is no surprise. Kagawa is on the northern side of Shikoku, facing the Seto Inland Sea. This location makes for a comparatively warm climate for pursuing one's studies. While Kagawa has the smallest landmass of Japan's 47 prefectures, it has the conveniences of urban life combined seamlessly with the natural beauty Shikoku is known for, and this attracts its fair share of international students.
